Kasey Kahne out for rest of 2018 season, career over?

Kasey Kahne has missed the last five races after suffering heat exhaustion following the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series event at Darlington Raceway. On Tuesday morning the driver tweeted that he would not be cleared to return to action for the remainder of the 2018 season.

The announcement from Kahne ends what had been labeled as his last full-time season in NASCAR.

“Out of the race car, I am perfectly healthy, I feel great, and the doctors have determined that I have no underlying health problems,” Kahne wrote on Twitter. “My body just can’t handle extended periods of time in the race car and we weren’t able to control the sweat ratio to keep me hydrated enough to prevent any permanent damage to my body.”

Kahne has intended to continue to compete in spring-car racing indicating that the shorter races and an open cockpit would eliminate any issue with hydration or his health.

In 529 career starts over 15 season Kahne went to victory lane 18 times highlighted by three wins in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
