Denny Hamlin started the Aaron’s 499 behind the wheel of the No. 11 Toyota Camry for Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway. It was Hamlins first time behind the wheel since a hard last lap crash during the Auto Club 400 in Fontana, CA.

During Hamlin’s time away Mark Martin and Brian Vickers have driven the Joe Gibbs Racing entry. For Sunday’s race Hamlin planned to start the race before giving way to Vickers.

On lap 22 the motor of Trevor Bayne let go allowing Hamlin and Vickers to complete the driver swap on lap 26 of the 188 lap race. Vickers finish will be credited to Hamlin since he is the driver who started the race.

Vickers would have a short time in the No. 11 car though as he was involved in a crash on lap 44 sending him to the garage.
