Regan Smith will no longer drive the No. 78 car of Furniture Row Racing following the race at Talladega next weekend. Appearing on Speed’s NASCAR Race Hub, Smith said he was given about two weeks notice that he would not be driving the car in 2013. Kurt Busch will take over the seat of the car beginning at Charlotte.
Smith says he has been speaking to “different teams, different owners” and talked about finding out “what direction you go.”
The priority for Smith is to be in good equipment with fast cars. When asked about driving in the Nationwide Series, Smith said that being out there with a chance to win races and a championship is enticing.
During his four years at Furniture Row Racing, Smith won the Southern 500 last year at Darlington. He had finished inside the top-ten twice this season following a crew chief change mid-season.
