William Byron started the Pocono 400 on the pole. Heavy rains from Saturday night resulted in a competition caution on lap 20. Midway though the first stage of 50 laps, Austin Dillon went into the wall while racing with Paul Menard.
Kyle Larson would end up winning the first stage which saw a flurry of pitstops prior to the end including Kyle Busch who pitted from fifth place.
