Caleb Hammond passes away prior to Indy race

The 11-year-old boy from Iowa who wanted to cover his casket in race stickers has passed away.

Several teams were planning to run the Big Machines Vodka 400 at the Brickyard with special #TeamCaleb decals however rain prevented the race from being run at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday.

Hammond had been diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 9, according to the Des Moines Register. Now 11, Hammond and his family recently decided to stop treatment at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, because it was no longer helping.
