NASCAR races at Martinsville snowed out, postponed until Monday

via Luke Lambert

Snow fell overnight at Martinsville Speedwat forcing NASCAR to cancel both scheduled races on Sunday. Both the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series’ STP 500 and the conclusion of the Camping World Truck Series’ Alpha Energy 250 will take place on Monday.

In contrast to their normal delay in making annoucements, NACAR’s operation director Steve O’Donnell annouced just after 7 am ET that there would be no NASCAR activity at Martinsville Speedway on Sunday tweeting the following,

Way more snow than anticipated last night-Met with track/local authorities this morning-resources need to be dedicated to local community-roads-trees down, etc. We’ll put on a great day of @NASCAR Monday. #doubleheader Always a tough call but the right one in this case.

Fans with tickets to either the Truck Series or Cup Series event will be allowed to enter the track on Monday to watch both events.

The Truck race will start at 11 am ET on Monday with the Cup Series event to follow starting around 2 pm ET.
