Daniel Hemric to drive No. 8 car for two races for RCR

The day Dale Earnhardt Jr. left DEI and left the No. 8 is a day many NASCAR fans will never forget. We could discuss for hours, maybe even days, as to who was at fault but instead let’s focus on what is happening in 2018.

Daniel Hemric will drive the No. 8 car for two races for Richard Childress Racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in 2018.

The No. 8 car was famously driven by Earnhardt from 2000-07 taking the son of 7-time champion Dale Earnhardt Sr. to 17 wins before he moved onto Hendrick Motorsports and had to settle for driving the No. 88 Chevrolet until his retirement at the end of the 2017 season.

For what it’s worth Earnhardt did tweet about the news saying “The 8 is coming back!!! Good luck with it @DanielHemric”

The photo released by NASCAR for the race at Richmond has the No. 8 Chevrolet that Hemric will drive painted in green and black. The rendering features Smoke Mouting Herbal Snuff on the hood and side panels with Sheetz on the decklid. It’s a stark contract to the red and black that donned the car for the majority of Earnhardt Jr’s time.

Perhaps the biggest take away from the rendering is the No. 8 is a different font altogether. In a sport where fonts seem to be recycled with certain numbers, RCR has opted for a round 8 on the car. Stay tuned for when photos of the actual car get released.
