Fire damages race shop of Leavine Family Racing

A fire which started around 7 am damaged the race shop of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team Leavine Family Racing.

Leavine Family Racing released a statement saying that there were no injuries and that the cause of the fire was not yet determined.

“We can confirm there was was a fire at our Concord, NC shop,” the team said. “Luckily no one was injured. We are working with the fire department and local officials to determine what happened. We’ve heard from the fire department there was significant damage to the back of the race shop. As you can imagine, we are still working to assess the full situation.”

Four backup cars were destroyed in the fire.

“After receiving more information from a restoration company that inspected the fire damage at the shop today, we were informed that structural damage may cause us to move our racing operations,” LFR team officials said in a statement. “We are currently exploring all options.

The Leavine Family Racing team is in Kansas this weekend. Driver Michael McDowell will drive the No. 95 Ford Fusion in the SpongeBob SquarePants 400.
