Jimmie Johnson won Sunday’s AAA 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The driver of the No. 48 led 189 of the 334 laps in Sunday’s race.
Matt Kenseth began the race on the pole and led early on. Josh Wise would bring out the first caution after hitting the wall. Jimmie Johnson soon emerged as a favorite taking the lead while Kevin Harvick worked his way up to second. The trio of Harvick, Kenseth and Jeff Gordon would all jockey for position behind Johnson.
Late in the race tire strategy came into play but Johnson would move back up to first while Kenseth and Ryan Newman each dealt with tire issues.
Johnson would allow Gordon around on a late race restart but another caution was to be had. Gordon choose the outside line but made contact with Brad Keselowski and then lost two tires spinning around and ruining his chance to win.
In the end it was Johnson holding off Harvick and Keselowski for his first win since Michigan.
