Joe Gibbs Racing will not appeal the penalties of NASCAR which were placed on Denny Hamlin’s car at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Hamlin’s car did not have the firewall sealed resulting in a six-week suspension to crew chief Darian Grubb and car chief Wesley Sherrill. Grubb was hit with a $125,000 fine and Hamlin was docked 75 points in the driver standings. The No. 11 car was also docked 75 owner points.

JGR had originally planned to appeal the penalties but has since changed their mind.

Mike Wheeler, the team engineer, has replaced Grubb as crew chief while Chris Gillin has taken on the role of car chief.

“I don’t think that this is the first time that NASCAR has ever seen this issue with cars in the garage as a whole,” Hamlin said last week at Pocono Raceway. “It hit us pretty hard for sure.”
