NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Josh Wise will be driving his No. 98 Ford Fusion in Sunday’s running of the Aaron’s 499 with funding coming in the form of Dogecoin currency.
Reddit user Denis Pavel, 16, began a campaign to raise money to fund the No. 98 car for this weekends race at the 2.66 mile Talladega Superspeedway.
Enter Dogecoin, a digital currency which can is similar to Bitcoin. In short it can be transferred just about anywhere in the word and has been used for other fundraising activities such as sending the Jamaican bobsled team to the 2014 Winter Olympics.
Pavel and the team owner for the No 98 car, Phil Parsons, exchanged phone numbers following contact on twitter. Shortly thereafter the Reddit community began to raise money to sponsor the car.
Wise has made eight starts this season with a best finish of 21st at Darlington.
