Forever will the Alabama Gang be a part of Talladega Superspeedway.

On Wednesday the largest track on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule honored The Alabama Gang by naming the backstretch after them titling it “The Alabama Gang Superstretch.”

The speedway paid tribute to the original members of the Alabama Gang – racing icons Bobby and Donnie Allison as well as Red Farmer.

Beginning with the Aaron’s 499 this weekend the backstretch will have large block lettering down the outside retaining wall on the backstretch. The letters themselves will span 200 of the 4,000 feet on the backstretch. “No honor is too big for the Alabama Gang,” said Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch.

“What we are doing in naming The Alabama Gang Superstretch is unprecedented in our sport. During our events, from TV cameras and still photography, fans will be able to see this accolade for some of our favorite people in the world. The gang has meant so much to NASCAR, Talladega Superspeedway and the state of Alabama, and this is just a small token of our appreciation.”

“This place is special,” Bobby Allison said. “We (The Alabama Gang) have always felt like we were a part of it.”
