Austin Dillon and the lamest Nationwide title ever?

Austin Dillon holds an eight point lead over Sam Hornish and is on the cusp of collecting his second championship in one of NASCAR’s top touring series.

It’s also the opposite of everything NASCAR has tried to promote in recent years. Simply put…. Champions are to win races and Dillon has not.

Do not get me wrong. Dillon has had a fine season scoring 23 top ten finishes in 32 races following his third place finish at Phoenix. But really? Where is the win?

Kyle Busch has won 12 Nationwide Series races this season so I can understand what some of you are thinking, in fact of the guys who can actually earn points and compete for a championship only thee have won races. Regan Smith scored two wins this season while Trevor Bayne and Sam Hornish have each won a race.

If ever there was a case for not allowing full-time Sprint Cup Series drivers to run the Nationwide Series this is it.

The guy who wins the most races does not been to be the champion but come on we want our champions to win at-least one race even as we refuse to make a case for Hornish or Smith.

Even a year ago this was not exactly the case.

Ricky Stenhouse won two and six races during his back-to-back series titles in 2011 and 2012.
