Jeff Gordon won the Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 from Martinsville Speedway on Sunday.
The seventh race of the NASCAR Chase began with Denny Hamlin on the pole at the .526 mile track located in Martinsville, VA. It would not take long for Jimmie Johnson to move to the top of the scoring pylon. Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch would both get chances to lead laps while a season high 17 cautions took place for 111 laps.
After 500 laps it was Gordon who scored the win. The win was Gordon’s first short track win since 2005 at Martinsville and his 88th win in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
By virtue of Kenseth’s second place finish and Johnson’s fifth there is a tie atop the point standings.
