Bobby Labonte broke three ribs in a bike riding accident on Wednesday near his home in North Carolina. The injury will prevent the former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion from competing in Sunday’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Labonte was taken to a hospital and held overnight for observation.
The 49-year-old Labonte was scheduled to drive the No. 51 Chevrolet of Phoenix Racing. Mike Bliss will fill in for him in that car.
Labonte owns 21 victories in the Sprint Cup Series including six at Atlanta.
Earlier this season Labonte had his 704 consecutive race streak snapped when he was replaced in the No. 47 car by A.J. Allmendinger at Kentucky.
