Tony Stewart won the FedEx 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks at the Monster Mile. The race at Dover International Speedway consisted of 400 laps for 400 miles around the concrete surface.

Denny Hamlin began the race on the pole with Toyota’s making up the top four on the starting grid. Kyle Busch would take the lead on lap 24 and lead until he pitted, regaining the lead after stops cycled through. Jimmie Johnson emerged into the top ten shortly after the first caution of the race.

Matt Kenseth would claim the lead after pit stops following the second caution but his day would end shortly after when he lost an engine bringing out the third caution. Busch would go back to the front of the field but Johnson would take the top spot on lap 206 and begin pulling away from the field.

As Johnson led, Martin Truex Jr became the second Toyota driver to see his engine blow up on lap 279. With 101 laps to go Ryan Newman wrecked David Gilliand destroying both drivers cars and bringing out the fifth caution of the day. On lap 316 Kasey Kahne lost a tire and hit the wall in turn two damaging his car.

Denny Hamlin hit the wall bringing out the final caution and bringing everyone to pit road. Juan Pablo Montoya would beat Johnson off pit road. On the ensuing restart Johnson jumped out and beat Montoya to the line getting a pass though penalty. The move took Johnson to a lap down.

Tony Stewart began to reel in Montoya who had never won on an oval and blew by him with a handful of laps left earning his 48th career win. Prior to Sunday, Stewart had not finished inside the top-five all season.
