Paul Menard, 32, is close to an extension with Richard Childress Racing. Menard is competing in his ninth NASCAR Sprint Cup season and has been driving the No. 27 Chevrolet for RCR since 2011.

Rumors had been spread that Menards father, John Menard — founder of the home improvement chain Menards, had been seeking to purchase Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing.

“It’s a great place,” Menard said of Richard Childress Racing., via FOX Sports “We’re making a lot of improvements also. When I came in we were running real good. It seemed like last year we took a step back but Richard has invested a lot in making the company better and we’re seeing that right now. It’s a very exciting place to be.”

Crew chief Slugger Labbe signed an extension with RCR two weeks ago. Labbe’s contract runs though the 2016 season. He has been the crew chief of Menard since 2010.

Menard has gotten off to a strong start this season currently ranking ninth in the Sprint Cup Series driver standings while finishing inside the top-1o four times.
