Austin Dillon to drive for Phoenix Racing at Las Vegas

While Austin Dillon will compete full time for the NASCAR Nationwide Series title that has not stopped him from adding races to his Sprint Cup schedule.

Dillon will run six races for his grandfathers team at the Cup level. On Friday it was announced he would also drive a race for Phoneix Racing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on March 10.

Phoenix Racing uses engines from rival Hendrick Motorsports. Tag Heuer will sponsor the car.

Finch jokingly said that the deal came to be because, “Richard is too old to mess with. Austin says they don’t have no fun.”

Finch said he is committed to 18 to 24 Cup races with the hope to piecing enough sponsorship to run the full schedule. Regan Smith will drive the season opening race for the team while A.J. Allmendinger will also see some time behind the wheel of the No. 51 car.

Phoenix Racing will also field a Nationwide Series car for Kurt Busch for the races at Daytona and Talladega. Busch won the July race at Daytona for the team. He also ran 30 races at the Sprint Cup level for the team last season before departing for Furniture Row Racing.
