Regan Smith will drive the full NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule for JR Motorsports next season. This week at Homestead-Miami Speedway Smith will get an early start behind the wheel of the No. 5 Chevrolet. Smith will join Danica Patrick (No. 7) and Cole Whitt (No. 88) as JR Motorsports fields three cars this weekend.
“I’m thrilled about this opportunity. Being a part of JR Motorsports and the direction it’s heading means a lot to me. I think running at Homestead will give us a great head start on 2013,” said Smith. “Our goal is to be the team that dominates races and contends for a championship. Races like this go a long way in helping the driver and team get acclimated to each other. I know a lot of the guys at JRM already, so this weekend will be a lot of fun, too. I’m looking forward to working with both Cole and Danica. I think there is a lot we all can learn from one another.”
Hendrickcars.com will be the primary sponsor of the car. During Dale Earnhardt Jr’s absence at the Sprint Cup level his ride was driven by Smith.
This will mark the eighth time that JRM has entered three cars in a Nationwide Series race this season. Smith is also scheduled to drive the No. 51 Chevrolet of Phoenix Racing on Sunday.
