Angela Cope runs into car, blows motor on lap 1 of Charlotte race

Angela Cope was hoping to show she belonged in stock cars. Her sister, Amber, had been blamed for costing Kevin Harvick a win in the Nationwide Series earlier this season at New Hampshire.

Over the past months Angela asked fans to fund her asking them to give her a chance to prove she belonged. Originally there was to be a fan vote to determine if Cope should race again, it was later changed as a plea to help her get a top ten finish. Her fundraising efforts raised north of $3,200 well shy of the initial $100,000 she had hoped for.

The race did not go as planned. Cope ran into the back of the No. 87 of Joe Nemechek at the start of the Dollar General 300 and promptly blew her motor. The result was a lengthy caution period and a track littered with fluids.

There is no word if Cope will run again. The car for Friday nights race was sponsored by Highland Wealth Advisors and was provided by SR2 Motorsports. She previously ran at Charlotte and Michigan this season.
