NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kurt Busch finished sixth in his first IndyCar race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Driving the No. 26 Andretti Autosport car, Busch began the 500 mile race from the 12th position. He fell as low as 20th but with 39 laps to go he had worked his way back up to ninth,

A season ago another NASCAR driver in AJ Allmendinger finished seventh in this race. Allmendinger led 23 laps.

Busch will also run the NASCAR Sprint Cup’s Coca Cola 600 from the 1.5-mile Charlotte Motor Speedway. He qualified 28th for the 400 lap race which is the longest of the season.

The last time a driver had attempted both the Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600 in the same day was 2004 when Robbie Gordon attempted both races.
