Alex Ovechkin will not play in Friday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Ovechkin will not travel with the Washington Captials after suffering a shoulder injury earlier this week.
This will mark Ovechkin’s first missed game since Feb. 22, 2012 against Ottawa.
While Ovechkin got on the ice early Thursday in practice he did not attempt any shots or handle any pucks.
Capitals coach Adam Oates confirmed that it occurred when Ovechkin was tripped by Alexander Edler 1 minute 19 seconds seconds into the contest and sent crashing into Roberto Luongo and the Canucks’ net.
