Ryan Blaney won the first Can-Am duel of Thursday.
Alex Bowman led the field to the green flag by virtue of setting the fastest time in Daytona 500 qualifying on Saturday. He was assured of the pole for The Great American Race regardless of what happened in this 150 mile race.
Once the green flag dropped, Bowman went high and waved the field by in an attempt to spare his car for the 500. A tire went down on Jimmie Johnson’s car early in the race taking him and Aric Almirola from the race. After a green, white checkered restart it was Blaney pulling away from the field for the win.
With just 40 drivers entered into the Daytona 500 some of the mystics of the duels has gone away. Still the race will determine the lineup for Sunday’s running of the 60th Daytona 500.
