Furniture Row interested in Martin Truex Jr.

If Michael Waltrip Racing can not find sponsorship for Martin Truex Jr. the driver could head to Furniture Row Racing.

Furniture Row is losing driver Kurt Busch at the end of the season to Stewart Haas Racing. Truex is facing an uncertain 2014 season himself after initially qualifying for hte 2013 Sprint Cup Series Chase only to be booted in the wake of some questionable activities from other MWR teammates.

Primary sponsor NAPA Auto Parts opted to leave MWR in the wake of those actions. The value of the deal between NAPA and MWR has been “reported” to be anywhere from $12-18 million.

So could the two eventual prove to be a match?

Maybe.

“He would certainly be on the radar to talk to,” general manager Joe Garone said of Truex, via SN. “He’s more than qualified to drive the 78.”

Of course another option could be Richard Childress Racing who has been trying to expand to a fourth car.

“You’re always interested, but we’re going to see what shakes down here with those guys,” Childress said. “I hope NAPA stays in the sport. I really hate it for Martin. I’m sure they’ll see the value in our sport and hopefully stay in with whomever.

Joe Gibbs Racing and Penske Racing have both denied interest in Truex Jr.
