Clint Robinson has made the bench of the Washington Nationals for opening day beating out Mike Carp for the final spot on the team.

Carp along with Rich Hill were re-assigned to the minors following the team’s 4-3 loss to the New York Yankees which ended their exhibition play.

Robinson has 13 career at-bats, of which nine came last season as a member of the Los Angeles Ddogers. He signed a minor league deal with the Nationals in December and then hit .320 this spring to win a bench spot.

“You work all offseason, the years in the minor leagues, just to get to this point,” said Robinson of winning the roster spot. “Just to be rewarded for having a good spring training means the world to me.”
