The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right handed pitcher Charlie Morton on the 15-day DL with a hip injury.
Morton, xx, has struggled for much of the spring following a hip surgery he underwent last fall. In 1 2/3 inning of work on Saturday he threw 70 pitches of which only 31 found the strike zone while allowing five runs, four hits, five walks and hitting two batters.
With Morton landing on the DL, Vance Worley will now start the season in the Pirates rotation. Given that Worley was 8-4 with a 2.85 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP across 18 games a season ago the Pirates are not in too bad of shape.
