Something smells with Bowyers rear end

Fresh off all the debate of how Clint Bowyer leaped over the competition with a win at New Hampshire comes news that the #33 car was being docked 150 points after failing post race inspection.

This is nothing new for RCR. Bowyer’s car was desperately close to failing inspecting at Richmond. No penalty ever came and Bowyer was able to make it into the Chase field. A penalty a week later after the team had leaped over the competition with a win just smells of controversy.

For what it’s worth NASCAR has stood by it’s decision saying that Bowyers Richmond car was just inside the tolerances for the rear end and over by 1/16th of an inch on the race winning car at New Hampshire.

Team owner Richard Childress attributes the difference due to contact on the track or even contact with the tow truck that pushed Bowyer to victory lane once he ran out of gas.

“That’s the only logical way that the left-rear of the car was found to be high at the tech center,” he said. “We will appeal NASCAR’s ruling and take it all the way to the NASCAR commissioner for a final ruling, if need be.”

If Bowyer’s penalty sticks it will undoubtedly doom any chance he had of winning the Sprint Cup. To think NASCAR tried to play up a chase battle for the 12th spot that Bowyer won only to knock him out the following week.

Crew chief Shane Wilson was also suspended by NASCAR but he recently wrote on twitter that he was headed to Dover as RCR attempts to appeal the penalty.
