Stenhouse Jr. looking forward to Dover following strong run a year ago

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and the No. 17 Ford Mustang heads to Dover International Speedway this weekending looking to improve upon his run at the 1-mile concrete track where he finished 15th after leading with just 85 laps to go.

Stenhouse is currently 20th in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series point standings but sits just 15 points out of the final playoff spot (16th). Stenhouse has continued to fall in the standings after a season high of 4th following Daytona. Over the last three weeks he has fallen from 13th to 20th. Stenhouse’s recent weeks have been in stark contract to teammate Ryan Newman who has climbed from 19th to 13th during the same span.

“Dover is very unique track because of the way you drive up out of the corners,” said Stenhouse. “The concrete eats away at the tires so the key is to take care of your tires on the long runs. We started the year strong, but we have struggled the past couple of weeks. This race usually comes down to strategy. We are looking to have a smooth weekend and hopefully leave with a solid finish.”
