Martin Truex failed inspection three times at Phoenix, car chief ejected

Hoping to secure a spot in the Championship 4 at Miami-Homestead Speedway, the No. 78 Toyota Camry of Martin Treux Jr. will be without car chief Blake Harris after the car failed inspection three times prior to Friday’s Busch Pole Qualifying at ISM Raceway.

Truex qualified 13th for the event and will retain that spot for Sunday’s running of the Can-Am 500. NBC and the NBC Sports App will have coverage of the race beginning at 2:30 pm ET.

In addition to losing Harris, Truex will also lose 30 minutes of practice time in Saturday’s final practice session.

“This seems to be kind of par for the course for us lately,” Truex said after qualifying. “I’d say 13th is a pretty good starting spot for the day we’ve had. We really didn’t get a crack at anything in practice and we didn’t have much time to get ready for qualifying and we were pretty far off. Made some good gains for sure.”
