Martin Truex and crew chief joining JGR for 2019

With Furniture Row Racing shutting it’s doors at the end of the 2018 season, fans have been awaiting an announcement that driver Martin Treux Jr. and crew chief Cole Pearn were joining Joe Gibbs Racing. That announcement came on Wednesday.

Truex joings JGR after five seasons with the Denver, Colorado-based No. 78 organization. He will take over the No. 19 car which had been driven by Daniel Suarez. Combined with Kyle Busch, Truex gives JGR multiple MENCS champions on their cup roster.

“Anytime you have an opportunity to bring two people of this caliber into your organization, it‘s certainly an exciting time,” said Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing, in a team release.. “They obviously have developed a chemistry that has led to tremendous success, including a championship. We‘ve gotten to know them well over the past few years through the alliance and having been part of the Toyota family. They both make us stronger as an organization.”

Truex, 38, has four wins and four Busch Pole Awards this year for Furniture Row, a year after claiming the MENCS title. In total Truex has 19 career wins in the MENCS. Pearn has been with Truex for all 17 of his Furniture Row victories.
