SHR reveals Kurt Busch’s 2018 Darlington paint scheme (Photos)

Fifth-teen years ago Kurt Busch lost a race to Ricky Craven at Darlington Raceway by just 0.002 seconds. It remains the closest finish in the Monster Energy Cup Series, matched only by the 2011 Aaron’s 499 at Talladega.

Now Stewart-Haas Racing has released rendered photos of what Busch’s 2018 Darlington throwback paint scheme will look like. To no surprise the car is modeled after the Taurus Busch finished second in on March 16, 2003.

Key Players:  Busch and Craven relive 2003 Darlington race

While the sponsorship of Sharpie is gone and the number has changed, Busch’s No. 41 Ford Fusion will bare similar colors and fonts to that of the No. 97 he drove in the Carolina Dodger Dealers 400.

It’s amazing to think that Busch has 29 Monster Energy Cup Series victories, including the 2017 Daytona 500, as well as a 2004 Series championship and yet the race fans remember the most was one in which he finished second.
