William Byron fastest in Saturday’s MENCS Daytona practice

Driving the No. 24 Chevrolet, William Byron posted the fastest speed in the second MENCS practice session at Daytona International Speedway ahead of Sunday’s qualifying for the Daytona 500.

Byron, the 2017 Xfinity Series champion, will be making his Cup debut at Daytona. His lap of 44.625 measured at 201.681 mph narrowly ahead of Ricky Stenhouse Jr’s lap of 44.632.

Running her final Cup race, Danica Patrick was 16th fastest.

With 40 cars on the entry list, there will be no teams who miss the season opener.
