NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Tony Stewart is in the hospital following an ATV accident on Tuesday.

The three-time series champion flipped a sand buggy outside of San Diego and had to be airlifted to an area hospital.

A team spokesman told The Associated Press that Stewart was injured in a non-racing accident on Sunday. He is being evaluated in an undisclosed hospital and able to move all extremities.

No further information was given and spokesman Mike Arning indicated Stewart’s condition will not be updated again until Thursday.

“We have received word from Stewart-Haas Racing of Tony Stewart’s accident and injury,” NASCAR chairman Brian France said. “On behalf of everyone at NASCAR, I wish Tony a full recovery and look forward to seeing him back in our sport when he’s ready to return.”

Stewart will turn 45 later this year and will retire from NASCAR racing at the end of this season.
