Kyle Busch underwent surgery Thursday

On Thursday Kyle Busch underwent surgery on his left foot and leg which was injured in an Xfinity Series race at Daytona last February.

The scheduled offseason surgery removed the plates, rod and screws that were used to help stabilize his foot and leg.

Dr. Robert Anderson of OrthoCarolina and Dr. Stephen Sims of Carolinas Healthcare System performed the surgery.

Busch missed the first 11 races of the season but aided by a waiver and four wins (Sonoma, Kentucky, Loudon and Indianapolis) was able to make the postseason Chase. After advancing to the final round, Busch won at Homestead to win the 2015 Sprint Cup.
