Sam Hornish Jr. currently sits 25th in the Sprint Cup Series point standings. With just three top ten finishes on the season Hornish’s time driving the No. 9 Ford Fusion at Richard Petty Motorsports is coming to an end.
Hornish will not return to RPM next season but just who will drive the team’s second car remains to be seen. RPM’s other driver Aric Almirola, driver of the No. 43, currently sits 17th in the point standings.
Speaking to reporters team owner Richard Petty said the organization is still looking at what to do with the car currently driven by Hornish.
“We’re still working on what we’re gonna do with the 9 car (Hornish) and crew and all that stuff,” Petty said. “Things are looking up. We’ve got some stuff coming down the pike, but we don’t have it corralled yet.”
