Jeff Gordon will leave the 2-mile Michigan International Speedway as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point leader.
Entering Sunday’s race at Michigan the points lead belonged to Gordon who held a 16 point lead over Matt Kenseth while Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the leader based on wins.
Following 200 laps at Michigan Gordon maintains the points lead but Jimmie Johnson claims his third win placing him in the lead for the reset which is what really matters.

Up next for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is the road course of Sonoma which will take place next Sunday.
Winners thus far this season include Dale Earnhardt Jr (2), Kevin Harvick (2), Joey Logano (2), Jimmie Johnson (2) Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski and Jeff Gordon. These drivers are all but assured a spot in the Sprint Chase.
