The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway was red flagged on lap 161 after a piece of the track came up.

Jamie McMurray hit a piece of concrete sending it into a pane of glass on the walkover bridge at the 1-mile concrete oval.

McMurray’s car was damaged on the splitter while track officials came out to the track to repair cracks.

Speaking during the red flag Michael Waltrip mentioned that tar had been used to try and repair parts of the track previously. Waltrip believes the new “no ride height” also played a factor.

Damage to the track is nothing new. In 2010 their was a pothole that developed during the Daytona 500, ironically McMurray won that race. A similar incident happened at Martinsville.
