Kurt Busch scored a sixth place finish in the Indianapolis 500, his first ever IndyCar start. Busch arrived at Charlotte Motor Speedway a short time later looking for a good run out of his No. 41 Chevrolet SS in the evenings NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Coca Cola 600.

Starting in the back of the field due to missing the mandatory drivers meeting, Busch rallied to mid pack. He benefited from a few cautions and after falling a lap down was able to get it back via the lucky dog.

In the end Busch would have engine troubles as he car would lose a cylinder and eventually blow up after 271 laps.

Of the handful of drivers who have attemped to run the full 1,100 miles only Tony Stewart has been able to pull it off – doing so in 2001.
