Cole Whitt’s rookie season at the NASCAR Sprint Cup level got a little rougher on Monday when news broke that the 22-year-old was without a ride for this weekends race at Richmond International Raceway.

Whitt had been driving the No. 26 car for Swan Racing but the underfunded team has been dealing with a lack of sponsorship for weeks which appears to have come to a head with Whitt and teammate Parker Kligerman having uncertain futures.

Anthony Marlowe tweeted last week that his goal was to ensure that Whitt had a ride for the rest of the season. Swan Racing is owned by Brandon Davis with Marlowe and former NFL player Bill Romanowski serving as partners.

Davis bought Swan Racing from driver/owner David Stremme prior to the start of last season.

Whitt finished a season best 18th at Auto Club Speedway. Kligerman’s best finish was 29th in the season opening Daytona 500.
