Joey Logano won Monday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway edging out Jeff Gordon.
The driver of the No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford Fusion crossed the start finish line ahead of Gordon and Kyle Busch to claim the win in the Duck Commander 500. Logano led 108 of 340 laps around the 1.5-mile oval located in Fort Worth, TX.
Monday’s race began with a green-yellow meaning cars simply followed the pace car around the track to run off laps since NASCAR failed to dry the track fully prior to the 12:00 pm ET start. Brad Keselowski came onto pit road on lap two with his hood popping up after a jetdryer blew up his hoof flaps. A slue of others had similar problems moments later.
To start lap 11 the green flag waved moments later Dale Earnhardt Jr. went off the track and blew a tire creating a fire in his No. 88 Chevrolet. Jimmie Johnson would have his windshield damaged from debris from Earnhardt Jr.
Denny Hamlin would get out in front of the field for a while but was hit with a speeding penalty on pit road. By the end of the scheduled distance Joey Logano had established himself as the car to beat but a yellow would come out as he was approaching the white flag. Following pit stops Jeff Gordon would lead the cars to the green-white-checkered.
Logano was able to get around Gordon and score his first win of the season all but earning a spot in the Chase. It is his fourth win of his career.
