Denny Hamlin won the pole for this weekends NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Bristol Motor Speedway. The driver of the No. 11 beat out Brad Keselowski and Matt Kenseth for the top spot.
Knockout qualifying began with all cars running laps at the same time before the field began to be cut down for the following segment. The top 12 cars moved on, while the rest of the field was seated in spots 13-43 with two cars failing to make the race.
In the final segment Hamlin set a new track record at 129.991 mph claiming the pole at the 0.533-mile track located in Bristol, TN.
Last season Kasey Kahne won this race while Matt Kenseth was the winner in the night race. Coverage of the Food City 500 will take place on FOX beginning at 1:00 pm ET with the green flag set to wave at 1:13 pm ET.
Sunday’s race will be 500 laps making up 266.5 miles.
Failing to make the race were Dave Blaney and David Reutimann.
