Rodney Childers will not return as the crew chief of the No. 55 car for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

Childers will sign a deal with Stewart-Hass Racing which will place him as the crew chief of the No. 4 car which will be driven by Kevin Harvick.

“It’s been a very long process, very hard and very emotional, too,” Childers told Performance Racing Network. “I ended up making the decision a couple of days ago. I told MWR yesterday and had to tell all my guys this morning. I was pretty much a mess trying to tell them.

FOXSports.com reports that Childers is  “not sure on (whether he would remain with MWR) the rest of the year. I will do what everyone at MWR wants me to do, and try to leave this team in winning condition. ”

This season the No. 55 car won at New Hampshire with Brian Vickers behind the wheel. Childers has been at MWR since 2009. He has earned all of his three wins as a crew chief with the organization. Childers has been a crew chief in the Cup series since 2005.
