Jimmie Johnson is the sole driver that can clinch a spot in the NASCAR Chase this weekend at Watkins Glen. Johnson has to leave The Glen with a 193-point lead over the 11th place driver. He currently holds a 178-point lead over 11th, which is occupied by Tony Stewart.
Stewart will not be driving his No. 14 Chevrolet after an accident that left him with a broken leg on Monday. Instead, Max Papis will assume his seat for the race.
A win at The Glen will guarantee Johnson at least a Wild Card entry into this year’s post season. Johnson has already won four races thus far this season.
Johnson, in 11 races at Watkins Glen has 6 top-ten finishes, and 4 top-five finishes.
Johnson is the only competitor to have qualified for the Chase field in all nine seasons.
