Ryan Newman won the pole for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Newman claimed the top spot with a speed of 187.531 to beat out Jimmie Johnson for the top spot.
Newman was the last car to qualify and the Indiana native did not disappoint the hometown crowd in his Quicken Loans/Smurfs 2 No. 39 Chevrolet setting a new track record. It is the 50th pole of Newman’s career.

The Crown Royal 400 will take place on Sunday with coverage beginning at 1:00 pm ET on ESPN.
A total of 45 cars attempted to qualify for the race. Mike Blissand Scott Speed failed to make the field for Sunday’s race.
