Dale Earnhardt Jr voted most popular driver (again)

The fans have spoken again. Dale Earnhardt Jr. was voted NASCAR’s most popular driver for the tenth consecutive year. The award has been given annually since 1956. By being selected as the sports most popular driver for the tenth year in a row Earnhardt joins Bill Elliott as the only drivers to win it for ten consecutive years.

More then 934,000 votes were cast in the competition.

This year Earnhardt won his first race in four years after winning the June race at Michigan International Speedway. Later in the season he missed two races after suffering a concussion at Talladega. Earnhardt finished twelfth in the overall driver standings.

For those wondering, Earnhardt’s father never won the award as most popular driver in NASCAR while he was alive. He later would posthumously win the award in 2001.

While Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been touring Las Vegas with girlfriend Amy Reimann, for the second consecutive year, do not assume the two are getting married just yet. Earlier this year Earnhardt said he was not planning to marry Reimann this winter.
