Start and park teams make too much money? James Finch thinks so

Start and park teams are being scrutinized once again, yes those same 5 or so teams that pull off the track within 5-10 laps of the green flag and park their cars for the day.

People seem to have differing opinions about this happening as this isn’t the first time it’s been brought up in the news.

But one person, who happens to be James Finch, owner of Phoenix Racing is asking NASCAR to change how much the teams get paid.

“I’m trying to get NASCAR to move some of the money up that the start-and-park guys are getting so we can race from 35th to 25th,” Finch said Friday at Talladega Superspeedway. “I’m getting (only up to) $2,000 more to run 500 miles than they do to play. Move it up and if they want it, let them race or it, And That’s not racing”

Finch is losing Kurt Busch after this weekend at Talladega. He will start for Furniture Row Racing in the No. 78 next weekend in Charlotte. It is said that Regan Smith will most likely be in the No. 51 car at least next weekend for Phoenix Racing.

We are still not counting out an A.J Allmendinger return for some of the races though. Yesterday Allmendinger told Marty Smith from ESPN that he had talked to Finch and if it happens it happens.

Finch and Phoenix Racing have driven most of this season unsponsored. He said they are still looking for sponsorship for 2013. With the car redesign looming next season Finch said he wants to be back but will have to build all new cars.

What happens to this years cars…?

When I get through (2012), I throw them away.” Finch said.

And that is very hard on a team struggling financially as it is.

Finch is 27th in the points this season. His plan of giving S&P drivers less money would guarantee more money to drivers that finished better in the points, and less to drivers that don’t even plan to race at all.
