Braves win 23rd startight start by Kris Medlen, sets record

The Atlanta Braves will hope this streak continues into the post season, Kris Medlen’s last twenty-three starts have resulted in wins for the team. The Braves who are assured of making the playoffs as a wild card team have not lost a game started by Medlen since May 10, 2010.

Medlen was moved into the rotation midway though the season after injuries began to delete the Braves starting rotation. After a stint in the minors to rebuild his arm strength Medlen has been unbeatable. Since his transition to the rotation Medlen has gone 9-0 with a 0.97 ERA in the 11 starts.

Medlen threw six-innings effort in Chipper Jones’ final regular-season home game. Fittingly the game was a 6-2 win over the Mets.

The Braves have now won each of the past 23 games started by Medlen dating back to May 29, 2010. This breaks the Major League record previously shared by the Yankees with Whitey Ford (1950-53) and the Giants with Carl Hubbell (1936-37).

The Braves were 19-8 in September and have won 12 of their last 15 games.

Medlen has gone 14-0 with a 2.38 ERA during the 23 starts that have encompassed his record-setting streak.
