Denny Hamlin Wins at Atlanta, Clinches Top Chase Seed

With his fourth win of the season, Denny Hamlin has punched his way to the race for the Chase and earned the top seed. Hamlin took advantage of a  late caution to beat Martin Truex Jr. off pit road and claim the win.

The final caution came out due to a flat tire on the No. 1 car of Jamie McMurray. It was there that Hamlin beat Truex off pit road enroute to his fourth win of the season. He won last week at Bristol and also claimed wins at Phoenix and Kansas.

“This year I think we got it all” said Hamlin who is will now have 12 bonus points when the Chase starts. “I don’t have to say anything. Wins are all that matters”

Jeff Gordon finished second and made a run at Hamlin on the final lap but fell short. Gordon was disappointing in his second place finish at the track which started his career in the Sprint Cup Series 20 years ago. “I made a bad decision… I should have just run into the back of him”

Finishing third was Brad Keselowski followed by Truex. Truex summed up just coming short of a win by saying “It just wasn’t meant to be”

Kevin Harvick who ran well early on finished fifth.
