Martin Truex says Contract is Basically Done

Martin Truex Jr is sitting fifth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) points entering this weekends race at Watkins Glen. While Truex has yet to win a race in the 2012 season he feels a win is just around the corner.

Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) has said they did not plan any driver changes at the end of the year. Truex recently said that he is close to finishing an extension with MWR.

“We’re very, very close. I’m not going to say it’s done, but it’s basically done. I’m very, very happy about that. I guess, it’s one of those deals where we had to work out some details, but there was never a time when the whole thought of going through contract negotiations again came up that there was never a thought of me saying what are my options, what am I thinking. There was none of that. It was how can we get this deal done and moving forward.”

MWR has been vastly improved this season. Clint Bowyer won earlier this season on the road course at Sonoma and both the No. 56 car of Truex and the No. 55 car have been knocking on the doors for a win.

“We’ve come a long way. When you put that much work into something, you don’t want to just say, ‘Ah, I can do this somewhere else,’ because it’s not that easy.”

Truex has been with MWR since the beginning of the 2010 season.
