After the Army decided to pull out of NASCAR in 2013, there were talks of what would happen with Ryan Newman; driver of the No.39 US Army Chevrolet of Stewart Haas Racing (SHR) next season after he becomes a free agent. Tony Stewart has remained optimistic stating “We’re working on it. It’s definitely still a setback, but we’re still pushing forward and doing everything we can to get that done.”
Today Newman said he is 100% focused on staying at SHR and has no intentions to return to Penske Racing. There were thoughts of Newman taking over the No.22 Penske Dodge (Penske Ford in 2013) currently driven by Sam Hornish Jr. after A.J Allmendinger failed a random drug test and was indefinitely suspended and released by Penske Racing in July.
If sponsorship can’t be found, Newman said “there’s potential for absolutely anything… My goal is to stay at Stewart-Haas and continue what we’re doing. We’re working on that.”
When Newman was asked to define his odds of staying at SHR, he replied “Right now, 100%, I hope.”
